Second Prize at EdgeZero 2024 Edition

This is my first blog article of the new year with some exciting news. Last year, two of my stories participated in the Dutch short story competition EdgeZero.

EdgeZero is a yearly competition where the best Dutch stories are published in an anthology and online. Stories can only participate if they were published or competed in an SF/F/H writing contest the year before. EdgeZero aims to bring the stories to the attention of a larger public. 310 stories participated. The jury selected a top 30 for publication. I was very pleased about the selection because two of my stories were included: Helwereld and De strijd om Alecs rechten. My story De strijd om Alecs rechten is a science fiction story. Helwereld is a horror-sci-fi story that I wrote with Mike Jansen. You can still read the stories online, but they are in Dutch.

The anthology was published as a paperback and eBook in September, but you could also read the stories on the EdgeZero website. Readers could vote for their favorite top 3 stories until December 10th. Between December 10th and December 20th, parts of the ranking were published online daily.

De strijd om Alecs rechten won the second prize. Helwereld got the 7e place. I am delighted with these results. I didn’t expect both stories would end up in the top 10. The picture below shows my trophy. I received it at the beginning of this month. It’s standing in a nice spot in my room.

The story Babbelaar from Rob Geukens won first prize. The story Nessa from Jasper Polane won the third prize. Congratulations!

I am happy and grateful that the public liked my stories and voted for them. This really motivates me to keep on writing.
